How do you choose your size in modest activewear?

1 min read Updated

The short answer

Choose your true size, not smaller: modest activewear is cut relaxed, and sizing down makes it cling and ride up as you move. Measure your bust and hips; between two sizes, take the larger. And check the top still covers your hips when you raise your arms.

What to measure

  • Bust, at the fullest point.
  • Hips, at the fullest point — the key measurement for a long top.
  • Your height, to see where the top and the pant hem will fall.

Why not size down?

With fitted clothes, people sometimes size down for a sculpted look. Modest activewear relies on room instead: a size too small stretches the fabric thin, makes the top ride up as you move and clings when you sweat.

Between two sizes?

  • Take the larger one: the relaxed cut allows it, and drawstring pants adjust.
  • If your hips are wide relative to your bust, size the top by your hips.

The test when it arrives

  • Raise your arms: your hips should stay covered.
  • Squat: the fabric shouldn’t pull or turn see-through.
  • Walk in the pants: the hem shouldn’t touch the floor.
